Peppermint Hot Cocoa
Hot cocoa recipe is based on the Creamy Hot Cocoa Recipe from Allrecipes.com and has been modified.
Ingredients:
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup white sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- ⅓ cup boiling water
- 3 ½ cups milk
- ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup half-and-half cream
- whipped cream
- marshmallows
- 8 peppermint sticks or candy canes
Instructions:
- Bring your water to a boil in a small saucepan.
- Combine cocoa, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan.
- Slowly pour in the boiling water while stirring.
- Simmer for two minutes, careful not to burn the cocoa.
- Slowly stir in the milk and tour peppermint sticks. Heat until steaming, but do not allow to boil.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Divide into four mugs and top with the cream, whipped cream or marshmallows, and a peppermint stick in each.
Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa
Ingredients:
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- ⅓ cup boiling water
- 3 ½ cups milk
- ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup half-and-half cream
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
- dark chocolate shavings
Instructions:
- Repeat steps #1 – #4 of the previous recipes.
- Slowly stir in the milk and dark chocolate chips. Heat until steaming and the chocolate is melted, but do not allow to boil.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Divide into four mugs and top with the cream and dark chocolate shavings.
Strawberry Hot Cocoa
Ingredients:
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup white sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- ⅓ cup boiling water
- 3 ½ cups milk
- ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup half-and-half cream
- whipped cream
- strawberry marshmallows
- 2 oz of freeze-dried strawberries
- 4 fresh strawberries
Instructions:
- Start by blending your strawberries in a food processor until they are reduced to a fine powder.
- Repeat steps #1 – #4 of the previous recipe.
- Slowly stir in the milk and strawberry powder. Heat until steaming, but do not allow to boil.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Divide into four mugs and top with the cream, whipped cream or marshmallows, and a strawberry on the rim of each cup.
Pro Tip: For added cheer, make your strawberry garnish a chocolate-covered strawberry instead!
